Stuck between the Rode VideoMic Pro+ and the Sennheiser MKE 600 for my GH5. Im filming some street food stuff in London next week and need clean audio without too much hiss.

  • Budget: 250 quid
  • Use: run and gun vlogging
  • Setup: needs to be fast

Leaning towards the Rode but is the Sennheiser sound quality actually better?...

In my experience, sticking to the Rode VideoMic Pro+ On-Camera Shotgun Microphone is the safer play for street food stuff. Over the years, Ive found that simpler rigs fail less often when you are moving fast.

  • Auto-power is a lifesaver so you dont lose audio
  • Much faster to mount than the Sennheiser
  • Built-in battery is more reliable than fiddling with XLR adapters or AA spares

Quick reply while I've got a sec... are you gonna be interviewing vendors or just doing voiceover? In my experience, shotguns really struggle with London street noise. Tbh, I'd grab the Rode Wireless GO II Dual Channel Wireless System. The onboard 24-bit uncompressed recording is a lifesaver if your GH5 preamps clip. It's way more versatile for run and gun vlogging than a fixed shotgun.

Saw this today and thought I'd throw in a budget pick. Honestly, I've been really happy using the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+400+Compact+Shotgun+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 400 Compact Shotgun Microphone for quick street shoots. It works well and you don't need a bulky XLR adapter like the 600...

  • built-in shock mount saves space
  • super low self-noise
  • battery lasts ages Check the Sound Guys site for comparisons on hiss levels. Helped me decide.
