picked up a used GH5 for my cousins wedding next month and the video looks amazing but man the internal mic is just... not it. everyone keeps saying to get the Rode VideoMic Pro but then i saw people complaining about the preamp noise on Lumix bodies being weird with that model or having to mess with the gain settings constantly.

then i looked at the Sennheiser MKE 400 but i cant tell if its worth the extra cash or if it even fits right without blocking the flip screen. my budget is firm at $150 since i already spent way too much on glass. does anyone have a setup that sounds clean without a ton of hiss?

Re: "Honestly i am super satisfied with the Deity..." - over the years ive found the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+400+Compact+Shotgun+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 400 Compact Shotgun Microphone is the gold standard for avoiding hiss. You can usually find them for a deal. Another solid pick is the Rode VideoMic GO II Lightweight Directional Microphone. It doesnt need a battery so it wont die mid-ceremony. Both are compact enough that they wont block your flip screen during the wedding.

Honestly i am super satisfied with the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Super-Cardioid Directional Shotgun Microphone on my GH5. It works well because of the physical gain dial on the back. My biggest tip is to set your camera internal gain to the lowest setting, usually -12dB, and then boost the volume on the mic itself. No complaints about hiss at all with that setup, and it doesnt block the screen.
