honestly im so over my g9 dying in the middle of a shoot its literally the most annoying thing ever especially for wedding video. i bought this cheap off brand grip on amazon and it keeps losing connection so the camera just shuts down and i lose the whole clip. so done with it. i need something that actually works and wont break the bank because i spent way too much on lenses this year. i got a big wedding gig coming up in three weeks in seattle so i need it fast.

  • budget under 100 bucks
  • must be reliable for vertical shooting
  • dont want cheap plastic junk

what are you guys using that doesnt suck...

Honestly wedding shoots are the worst time for gear to fail so i feel your pain. If you're doing professional work for clients, the official Panasonic DMW-BGG9 Battery Grip is the only way to go for the Lumix G9. The cheap ones often have pin alignment issues that cause those random shutdowns you're seeing.

  • The official grip has identical weather sealing to the body, which you will probably need in Seattle.
  • Used copies on sites like MPB or eBay often go for under 90 bucks if you look for excellent condition.
  • If you absolutely must buy new and stay under budget, the Neewer DMW-BGG9 Replacement Grip is the most stable third-party one I've used, though the buttons feel a bit mushier than OEM. Tbh just grab a used genuine one. It's built like a tank and the vertical joystick actually works every time. Shipping from reputable used dealers is usually fast enough for your three-week deadline.
