Ive shot Lumix for years but this S5II is killing batteries way faster than my S5 ever did during long 4K60 takes. My logic was just grabbing some cheap Wasabis for a shoot in Philly this Friday, but I heard third-party cells might trigger firmware errors now?

I need to stay under $100 total, so whats the move...

Seriously, just grab the SmallRig DMW-BLK22 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery! They're amazing, super reliable, and havent given me any errors yet. Total lifesaver for the price, love it!

I have been shooting on the S5II since launch and that 4K60 definitely eats power compared to the older bodies. I've tried a few different setups to stay powered up without breaking the bank and honestly I am very satisfied with how some of these third party options are holding up. You dont need to drop eighty bucks per battery for the official ones if you pick the right brands.

  • SmallRig DMW-BLK22 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery: This is my top pick. It works well and the built-in USB-C port means I dont even need to carry a separate cradle. No errors on my firmware so far.
  • Neewer DMW-BLK22 Replacement Battery 2-Pack with USB Charger: I have no complaints with these for the price. They are super affordable and the included dual charger is small enough to toss in a side pocket.
  • Wasabi Power DMW-BLK22 2-Pack and Dual Charger: These are what you mentioned... they are decent but I have noticed they can get a little warm during long 4K takes compared to the SmallRig ones. Personally, I would grab two of the SmallRig cells. They feel the most robust and being able to charge them with my phone cable is a huge win. I have done several long shoots in hot weather and they havent let me down yet. Definitely stay away from the super generic unbranded stuff tho.

> I heard third-party cells might trigger firmware errors now? Building on the earlier suggestion, I'm usually really paranoid about that kind of thing. When I first got my S5II, I spent ages reading forums because I was terrified of a cheap battery causing a glitch or worse during a shoot. I ended up picking up the SmallRig DMW-BLK22 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery and honestly, I'm super satisfied with it. I used it for a long weekend trip recently and it worked perfectly without any weird firmware errors popping up. They cost about $40, so you could grab a couple and stay under your $100 budget easily. The best part is the built-in USB-C port... I just used my phone charger to top it off while we were driving. It feels way safer than the really cheap unbranded stuff, and I have no complaints so far. It just works well.
