Essential gimbal recommendations for Panasonic Lumix mirrorless cameras?

I'm starting to panic a bit because I've got my first solo wedding gig coming up in three weeks in Seattle and I still haven't picked out a gimbal for my Lumix setup. I'm mainly using the GH6 with the 12-60mm lens and sometimes the GH5S for low light but man that GH6 is heavier than it looks. I've been looking at a few options:

  • DJI RS3
  • Zhiyun Crane 4
  • DJI RS3 Mini

I'm really torn between the RS3 and the Crane 4. I'm leaning toward the Crane 4 because of the built-in light and the wrist rest which might save my life since I've got some old carpal tunnel issues acting up lately. But then there's the RS3 Mini which is way cheaper and lighter but I'm terrified it won't handle the weight of the GH6 once I add a mic and maybe a monitor.

My budget is pretty firm at $500 though I could maybe push it to $600 if it's absolutely necessary to keep things from being a shaky mess. I just need something that balances easily because I'm gonna be running around a rainy park all day and dont have time to fiddle with screws or weird software bugs while the bride is waiting.

Which one of these is actually the best fit for the Lumix ecosystem specifically for wedding video?

Agree, Minis payload is unfortunately weak for GH6 inertia.

Tl;dr: Get the DJI RS3 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer. I'd be careful with the Mini; it might struggle with a heavy GH6. Its the safest, most reliable choice for your budget. Good luck!

To add to the point above: I definitely agree that the Mini is a risk. You really dont want the motors struggling or overheating during the ceremony.

  • What is the total weight of your GH6 rig once you add the mic and monitor?
  • Are you planning to use a cage or a follow focus too? Make sure to check the motor torque specs... wedding days are long and you need reliability above everything else.

Re: "Agree, Minis payload is unfortunately weak for GH6..." - honestly, in my experience, pushing a small gimbal to its limit is a recipe for a total gear meltdown during a ceremony. weddings are stressful enough without your rig vibrating like a beehive halfway through the vows. I've tried many setups over the years and being conservative with payload is always the safer play. Since you mentioned the carpal tunnel, are you looking specifically for an underslung handle setup or do you need something with a dual-grip option to distribute the weight? Also, what's your total rig weight once you add the mic and monitor? TL;DR: Motor reliability is everything. Don't pick a gimbal that will be running at its max capacity all day just to save a few bucks or ounces.
