Does anyone know which battery grip is actually worth getting for the Lumix G9II because I'm seeing conflicting info online about whether the older G9 grips fit or if I absolutely have to shell out for the new DMW-BG1?
I’ve been shooting with Panasonic for like eight years now and I finally upgraded from my original G9 but man I didn't realize they changed the body shape just enough to make my old accessories useless. It’s super frustrating because I have a huge wedding shoot coming up in Seattle in less than two weeks and I really need that extra battery life and the vertical shutter button for those long portrait sessions. I looked at the official one but it's like $350 which is insane after what I just spent on the body and some new glass.
I saw some third-party stuff on Amazon but I'm terrified they're gonna fry my electronics or the weather sealing won't hold up in the rain. I need it to handle:
Does the G9II even recognize the non-OEM batteries if they're in a third-party grip? I really need something reliable that wont fail on me mid-ceremony but my budget is basically tapped out. Is there a specific brand like Neewer or something that actually works or am I just stuck buying the overpriced official one...
I remember being in your shoes, basically broke after buying a new body. Over the years Ive tried many clones and found the DSTE DMW-BG1 Vertical Battery Grip surprisingly decent for the price. It even plays nice with my generic batteries without throwing those non-OEM warnings. It survived a damp morning shoot recently, and the joystick response is actually pretty snappy for moving focus points around.
Honestly, dont even bother trying the old G9 grips, they wont fit the new body at all! I grabbed the Panasonic DMW-BG1 Battery Grip for my G9II and it is fantastic! The build quality is amazing and the weather sealing is rock solid for those wet Seattle shoots... Tbh, just bite the bullet and get the official one because the joystick and power delivery are totally flawless!
Agreed, that official grip is stellar but super pricey. In my experience:
