What camera strap is actually going to save my neck from this massive Nikon D850 because I think it might actually snap my spine if I keep using the one it came with. I am totally new to this whole photography thing and I feel like a total idiot for not realizing how heavy these things are but I just bought this huge camera and a big 70-200mm lens for my daughters wedding in San Diego next Saturday and I am honestly shocked. I thought it would be like holding a regular camera but it feels like a literal stone block. I have been practicing taking photos of my dog in the yard to get ready for the big day but after like fifteen minutes I have to put it down because the thin strap that says Nikon on it is digging into my neck so bad it leaves a red mark.

I have no idea what I am doing or what the difference is between all these brands people talk about online. I saw some things called slings and some other things called harnesses but they look so complicated with all these tiny clips and I am terrified I am gonna drop the whole thing and break it before the wedding even starts since I spent way too much money on it already. I have about sixty or seventy dollars left to spend on this and I really need to order something today so it gets here by Friday. Does a wider strap help with the weight or do I need one of those ones that goes across my chest like a seatbelt? I keep hearing about something called Peak Design but I dont understand how the little round things work or if they are strong enough to hold something this heavy. My neck is already so sore and I just want something simple that wont break and makes it feel lighter if thats even possible. Please help me out because I am starting to panic that I wont even be able to carry the camera for the whole ceremony without being in total agony...

The Altura Photo Rapid Fire Camera Sling Strap with Safety Tether is a decent option. It shifts that Nikon weight to your shoulder and won't cost as much as the premium brands.

I am very satisfied with the Peak Design Slide Camera Strap SL-BK-3 for my heavy D850 setup.

  • Peak Design Slide: 45mm width, 200lb-rated Dyneema anchors, dual quick-adjusters.
  • BlackRapid Sport Breathe Sling: Large foam shoulder pad, locking carabiner, shifts weight to the torso. I dont have any complaints with either. The Slide is very secure and works well once you click those anchors in. It handles the load easily.

To add to the point above: I remember my first time lugging a heavy Nikon through a long wedding. My neck was totally ruined. I eventually switched to neoprene and it saved my back.

  • Just get a wide Op/Tech Neoprene Camera Strap.
  • The material stretches to absorb the bounce as you walk.
  • It's a decent, simple option that stays secure without all the extra clips.
