I just got a Nikon Z6II for my family trip to Florida next month and im so excited but totally lost!! I only have about $200 left to spend on extras.

  • what memory cards actually work?
  • do i need a screen protector?
  • whats a good cheap strap?

I have no idea where to start sorry if these are dumb questions...

Honestly, spending too much on junk when i first got mine was a huge mistake. I tried some cheap generic SD cards from a big box store for a beach trip last year and they were a total disaster... the buffer kept stalling every time i tried to take a burst of my kids running. It was so frustrating missing shots because the card couldnt keep up with the Z6II data rate. Unfortunately, for Florida you definitely want something fast because of the heat and humidity too. Grab a SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II for the second slot because they are reliable, but put your money into a decent CFexpress card for the main slot. Having a no-name brand fail on me taught me a lesson, so now the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type B Card 128GB is my go-to. It eats up most of your budget but prevents that card error heartbreak. As for the strap, the one that comes in the box is honestly trash. It screams steal me and chafes your neck after an hour. I tried a cheap knockoff from Amazon once and the plastic clip snapped... almost dropped my rig on the pavement. Switching to the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap made a huge difference since its slim and wont bulk up your bag. Definitely get a screen protector too. A grain of sand scratched my LCD in Destin because i was stubborn about protectors. A basic ULBTER Z6II Screen Protector Tempered Glass 3-pack is cheap insurance.

Exactly what I was thinking

I'd suggest being careful with your money. My cousin took his gear to Florida and:

  • forgot his charger
  • lost his bag It was a total ordeal and he was miserable.
