What are the essential accessories for a new Nikon Z6II?

So I finally bit the bullet and grabbed the Z6II after shooting with my D750 for like six years. I thought I knew what I was doing but mirrorless is a different beast entirely. My logic was that I could just swap everything over but then I realized the card situation is weird. Like do I really need those expensive CFexpress Type B cards for wedding work or can I just stick to fast SDs for a bit? I am based in Chicago and have a big shoot coming up in three weeks so I need to get my kit sorted fast. I was thinking about the FTZ adapter obviously because I have a ton of F-mount glass but then I started worrying about the battery life. Everyone says mirrorless eats batteries way faster than DSLRs so should I buy like three extra EN-EL15cs or is that overkill? Also I saw some people talking about screen protectors and L-brackets but I dont know if they actually fit right with the tilt screen on this specific body. My budget is about $500 to get the essentials right now so I gotta prioritize. What are you guys actually using day-to-day that isnt just marketing fluff...

Just saw this. Honestly, coming from the D750 is a bit of a wake-up call regarding accessory prices. I was pretty disappointed when I realized my old stash of SD cards couldn't keep up with the Z6II buffer during high-speed bursts... it really kills the momentum during a ceremony. Like someone mentioned, the battery life is definitely a downgrade from the D750's multi-day stamina, but you dont need to spend a fortune on the official Nikon ones. If you're trying to stretch that $500 for your Chicago shoot, skip the overpriced first-party stuff where you can. Here is what I actually trust after some trial and error:

  • Silicon Power 128GB CFexpress Type B Card
  • SmallRig L-Bracket for Nikon Z6II 2258
  • SmallRig EN-EL15c USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery
  • ULBTER Screen Protector for Nikon Z6II 9H Tempered Glass The SmallRig battery is a lifesaver because you can charge it via USB-C in the car between locations. I had issues with generic L-brackets blocking the tilt screen before, but that specific SmallRig one actually fits the body properly. I was so bummed when I scratched my top OLED screen on my first week out, so definitely grab those protectors immediately. Unfortunately, the FTZ is necessary for your glass but it makes the camera feel unbalanced with heavier F-mount lenses, which is kinda annoying for a long wedding day. You definitely need at least one CFexpress card to even use the primary slot, and that Silicon Power one is much better for the budget than the big names. Save your money for the native Z glass later because thats where the real difference is.

Congrats on the upgrade. I came from the D750 too and the battery shock is real but totally manageable. Honestly you dont need to go overboard with three extras... just grab one Nikon EN-EL15c Rechargeable Li-ion Battery for now and see how you go. Mirrorless is definitely thirstier but that 15c lasts a decent while if you dont keep the screen on full brightness all day. For the wedding stuff, you can survive on SDs but the buffer clears so much faster with a CFexpress. Since your budget is tight maybe just grab one Lexar Professional 128GB CFexpress Type B Gold Series and use your old SDs for the backup slot for now. Also if you have a lot of glass definitely look for the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter instead of the first version. It feels way better in the hand without that annoying tripod foot bumping into your fingers.
