So I finally saved up and got a Nikon Z6ii because I really want to take photos of the northern lights in Iceland next month but now I realize I have no idea how to keep the camera still. I went to look for a tripod and wow there are way too many options and I'm honestly so confused by all the numbers and materials like what even is the difference between aluminum and carbon fiber besides the price?
My logic was that since I'm traveling I should get the smallest one possible so it fits in my carry-on but then I read somewhere that if it's too light itll just blow over in the wind which sounds like a nightmare for my new gear. I saw some brands like Manfrotto and Peak Design but they are so expensive... like is it really worth spending $400 on three legs? I was hoping to stay around $200 or maybe a bit more if it really makes a difference because I still have to pay for the rest of my trip.
I think my main goals are:
I just want something that works and doesnt feel like a toy. Does anyone have a specific one they use for their Nikon mirrorless? I'm sorry if these are really basic questions I just dont want to buy the wrong thing and regret it when I'm standing in the cold...
Just saw this. You might want to consider the Sirui AM-254 Carbon Fiber Tripod with K-10X Ball Head for your Z6ii. It is sturdy enough for the wind but stays near your $200 limit.
To add to the point above: unfortunately my cheap tripod snapped in the wind... it was awful.
