I recently upgraded to the Nikon Z8 and I'm in the market for a high-quality flash to complement my new camera. I shoot a variety of subjects, including portraits, events, and some outdoor photography. I want a flash that is reliable, versatile, and can keep up with the demands of professional use.

I've been considering the Nikon Speedlight SB-5000, but I'm open to other options as well. I'd love to hear from other Nikon Z8 owners about their experience with different flash units.

I'm willing to invest in a high-end flash if it means getting the best results. Please share your recommendations, along with any pros and cons you've experienced with different models. I'd also appreciate any tips on getting the most out of my new flash once I make a decision.

Have you look at the new Godox V1Pro. It is a powerful flash at a budget price.

@zane I also love Godox V1 Pro, works well on my Z6 II.

> I shoot a variety of subjects, including portraits, events, and some outdoor photography. Jumping in here... Ive been shooting Nikon for years and honestly, the brand name flashes arent always the way to go anymore. If you want reliability for events, check out the Godox V860III-N Speedlight for Nikon. I've had mine for a while and the li-ion battery is a total game changer compared to AAs. It recycles fast and the physical switch for TTL/Manual is super handy when you're moving fast. Another solid choice if you want something that feels a bit more premium is the Westcott FJ80 II Speedlight. The color consistency is way better than my older flashes and the touchscreen UI is actually intuitive, which is rare.

  • Godox: Great battery life, cheap, feels slightly plasticky tho.
  • Westcott: Amazing color, works with their whole ecosystem, but the battery is proprietary. In my experience, either of these will handle a wedding or a portrait session just as well as the SB-5000 for way less cash. Just make sure you update the firmware first... Nikon Z cameras can be picky with third party triggers sometimes.

I think Nikon SB-5000 is the best flash for Nikon Z8.

If you are looking for a high-end flash, get the Profit A10: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Profoto+A10+Camera+Flash+Camera&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

Godox flashes are great, a $300 Godox flash can be better than SB5000.
