finally pulled the trigger on a Q3 and man my hands are already cramping up a bit during long walks. i was looking at the official leica thumb grip but the price is honestly kind of a joke for what it is even for leica.

i saw the match technical thumbs up gets mentioned a lot but some people say it might interfere with the top dial or it doesnt sit flush on the Q3 body compared to the Q2. i have a trip to Kyoto coming up in 3 weeks and i need something that wont dig into my skin after four hours of street shooting. does anyone have real world experience with which one is actually the most comfortable?

I would suggest being careful with the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-SQ3 for Leica Q3 since it might sit slightly proud of the body. You might want to consider the Haoge THB-Q3B Metal Thumb Grip for Leica Q3 as an alternative. Make sure to verify it doesn't block the rear dial before Kyoto... fitment can be a bit of a gamble with third party tolerances. It definitely helps the cramping tho.

Unfortunately I had a pretty rough start with accessories for my Q3. I initially tried to save cash with a generic brand and it ended up leaving a mark on the hot shoe... totally ruined my week. As someone still learning the ropes, safety is way more important than just ergonomics. I looked at the boutique stuff but the price is just insane for a tiny piece of metal. I eventually tried the JJC TA-Q3 Aluminum Alloy Thumb Grip because it was super budget friendly compared to the official one. It gets the job done but its not as good as expected tbh. The technical fit is slightly off and I worry about it wiggling and damaging the pins over time. Its disappointing that you have to spend so much just to get a secure fit. If you're heading to Kyoto, maybe look at the Lim's Design Metal Thumb Grip for Leica Q3 if you can find a deal. It feels safer than the ultra-cheap ones but still wont break the bank.

saw this earlier and had to jump in because the whole accessory situation for the q3 is honestly a joke. it drives me crazy that we spend this much money and still end up with hands that feel like theyve been through a meat grinder after a few hours of shooting.

  • the official leica pricing is a total scam and its basically daylight robbery for what is basically just a tiny bit of machined metal
  • it feels like companies design these cameras to be sleek but ignore actual human hands just so they can sell us the fix later
  • trying to find something reliable that doesnt cost a fortune or ruin the finish of the camera is a complete nightmare
  • its so frustrating that even the high end boutique options seem to have fitment issues half the time anyway... just feels like we cant win.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
