Which thumb grip is most comfortable for Leica Q3 users?

I just dropped a small fortune on this Q3 and honestly im so stressed right now because I feel like im gonna drop it every time I take it out. I was shooting some street stuff in Brooklyn yesterday and the camera almost slipped out of my hand while I was trying to change some settings and my heart literally stopped because this thing cost me like 6 grand and I dont have insurance on it yet. The ergonomics are just not clicking for me and my hand is cramping up after like twenty minutes of shooting which is just ridiculous for a camera this expensive.

I tried the official Leica thumb grip at the store but it felt weirdly sharp and it covers the back dial in a way that makes me feel like im fumbling around. I have a big wedding shoot for a friend in three weeks and I really need to get the ergonomics sorted before then or im gonna be a nervous wreck the whole day. Ive been looking at a few options:

  • The Match Technical Thumbs Up
  • Haoge budget versions
  • The official Leica one again (maybe I just need to get used to it?)
  • IDS Works

Does anyone actually have one that makes the camera feel secure without blocking all the buttons? I just want to feel like I have a solid hold on it while im walking around. Is the Match Technical one actually worth the crazy price tag or am I just paying for the brand name at this point...

Honestly, the official one is a total miss! I went through the same panic with my Q3. You should definitely check these out:

  • Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-SQ3 is hands down the best quality. It feels amazing and the brass weight is perfect.
  • Haoge THB-Q3B Thumb Grip is a fantastic budget alternative if you dont wanna spend a ton. The Match Technical one is pricey but worth every cent for the comfort alone!

Unfortunately, simple thumb rests often fail to provide real security.

Honestly, its frustrating that such an expensive piece of gear feels so slippery right out of the box. I've tried several and unfortunately, most of these boutique options just dont justify the high cost or actually fix the security issue.

  • JJC TA-Q3 Metal Thumb Grip for Leica Q3 is what I finally settled on. Its solid aluminum and doesnt block the back dial much at all. Ngl, the build quality is almost identical to the fancy brands but for way less money.
  • If you're genuinely scared of dropping it tho, a thumb grip alone might not be enough. I'd look at the SmallRig 4262 L-Shape Grip for Leica Q3. It adds a proper handle to the front which is what finally stopped my hand from cramping after twenty minutes.
  • I tried the IDS Works Q3 Foldable Thumb Rest but it felt a bit flimsy for the price when I handled it... kinda disappointing considering the hype. Better to save your cash for that insurance policy you mentioned instead of overpaying for a tiny piece of brass.

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.

Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
