I leave for a trip to Italy in four days and really need to get a thumb grip for my new Q3. Im torn between the official Leica one and the Match Technical Thumbs Up. The Leica ones super expensive but is it worth the premium over the Haoge version or is it just the same thing? Which one is best for long days walking?
> I leave for a trip to Italy in four days and really need to get a thumb grip for my new Q3. The Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-SQ3 is the technical winner here. Its solid brass, so it feels much heavier and more stable than aluminum versions. If thats too pricey, the IDS Works Q3 Thumb Grip is a decent option with a slim profile that doesnt block the rear dial. Brass definitely helps with ergonomics for long walks... feels like part of the frame.
Quick reply while on my break. Had a really frustrating time with this lately. I spent way too much for the Leica Thumb Support Q3 19504 and unfortunately the finish felt cheap for the price. It just wasnt as good as I expected. Then tried the Oberwerth Half Case for Leica Q3 with Grip but found it way too bulky for street shooting. Honestly, it was pretty disappointing given the premium you pay for this stuff. For long days walking, a half case might actually be a better call for comfort. The Lim's Design Leather Half Case for Leica Q3 is what I use now because it adds a small bolster to the front. It saves your hand from cramping way better than a thumb rest ever did. Quick tips:
Honestly, I've tried many over the years and the official one is nice but way too pricey. If you want to save cash for Italy, the Haoge THB-QB Metal Thumb Grip for Leica Q3 is basically identical for way less.
Yep, this is the way
