What leather strap is actually the most comfortable for an M camera? I'm debating between the Artisan & Artist ACAM-280 and those Rock n Roll classic ones. Leaning toward the A&A but worried itll dig into my shoulder during my Tokyo trip next month since I'll be walking all day. My budget is around $150 or so...

In my experience, walking around Tokyo all day requires a strap that actually breathes and moves with you. I've tried many over the years and these two are solid alternatives:

Honestly, I was pretty let down by the Artisan & Artist ACAM-280 Leather Camera Strap. I bought it for a street photography weekend, but unfortunately, it felt like it was sawing into my neck after just a few hours. The leather quality is high but its just too narrow for long days. Rock n Roll straps have the same problem; they look amazing but the comfort is not as good as expected when your M camera starts feeling heavy. Tokyo involves a ton of walking so you really need to be careful. A few quick tips:

  • Stick to straps that are at least 20mm or wider to distribute weight.
  • Try the ONA The Lima Camera Strap if you want leather with more surface area.
  • Skip the thin cord styles entirely for travel. I ended up using a Domke 1-Inch Web Camera Strap instead. It doesnt look as fancy as the A&A but honestly my neck didnt hurt. Dont make the mistake of picking style over comfort for a big trip like that... you'll regret it by day two.

Building on the earlier suggestion, unfortunately many boutique straps are not as good as expected when it comes to long-term comfort. I had issues with the thin designs because they simply dont handle the density of a Leica M well during a full day of shooting. For your Tokyo trip, I would suggest looking at options that prioritize weight distribution over just the minimalist look.
