So I finally bit the bullet and got an M11 last week after saving up for ages. Honestly I am so scared of even putting it down on a table because it cost more than my first car lol. I keep seeing these leather bottom covers in photos on Instagram and they look really cool but I have no idea what they are actually for or what brands are even good? I think they are called half cases?

Sorry if this is a super basic question but I am totally new to the whole Leica world and everything is kinda overwhelming. I went to a local shop here in Chicago and the guy showed me one but it was like 400 dollars which seems insane for a bit of leather? Or maybe that is just how much things cost for this camera. I really want something that protects the bottom from scratches when I put it down but also lets me get to the battery easily because I heard the M11 has that weird new battery door thing.

Are there any specific ones that you guys recommend that dont break the bank but still look nice? I saw some on Amazon for 50 bucks and then others for 500 and I am just lost. Does the brand really matter for a piece of leather? I just want my camera to stay safe while I walk around taking photos of buildings and stuff and I dont want to ruin the finish on day one...

Yo! Congrats on the M11, its seriously a beast! Scratches on the bottom plate are a legit fear since it doesnt have the old-school metal base anymore. Honestly, you dont have to spend 400 bucks to get something that feels premium and actually protects your gear. Check out these fantastic options that wont make your wallet cry too hard:

Like someone mentioned, it is honestly frustrating how expensive these accessories are for the M11. I am in the exact same boat and unfortunately, I have had issues finding a case that balances cost and security... To help narrow things down, are you planning on using a tripod regularly? Also, do you require a cutout for the battery door, or is total bottom protection your main priority?

Any updates on this?

To add to the point above: honestly I am in the exact same boat and it is driving me absolutely insane. I have been looking for something that fits the M11 for nearly four months now and I still havent clicked buy on anything because I am terrified of getting ripped off or buying junk that doesnt fit the battery door properly. Basically my situation right now:

  • I am currently using a microfiber cloth wrapped around the bottom with a rubber band when I am at home because I am too scared to even put it on my desk.
  • I actually tried to DIY a protective strip using some adhesive felt from a craft store but it looked so cheap and sketchy I ripped it off immediately.
  • Every affordable option I see online has mixed reviews about the leather smelling like chemicals or not lining up with the USB port which makes me super cautious. I really thought I would have found a solution by now but it feels like there is no middle ground between a cheap piece of plastic and a five hundred dollar designer case. Totally frustrating tbh.
