What are the absolute must-have accessories for an M11 because im honestly so annoyed with how much extra stuff you need just to make it feel safe to hold? I finally saved up and got the silver body for my big trip to Tokyo next month and im beyond hyped but man the out-of-the-box experience is stressing me out. It feels so slippery and I'm terrified I'm gonna drop it on the pavement. I've got about $800 left in my gear fund for extras. Do I really need a thumb grip or is the official handgrip better? Also need a strap that wont kill my neck during 10-mile walks. Im just so overwhelmed trying to get this sorted before I fly out...

I'm gonna disagree slightly with just getting a thumb rest. In my experience, those help with ergonomics but they dont really fix the slipperiness of the M11 finish. If you're walking 10 miles a day in Tokyo, you want actual security. I've tried many setups over the years and the Leica M11 Handgrip Black Aluminum is the only thing that made the camera feel anchored. It adds weight but the peace of mind is worth it. For the strap, honestly, forget the thin leather ones. They look cool but they're terrible for your neck after a few hours. I use the Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap SLY-AS-3 because you can cinch it tight against your body in crowded subways. Also, definitely grab a spare Leica BP-SCL6 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery... Tokyo is a long day and you dont want to be hunting for a charger at 4 PM.

Re: "I'm gonna disagree slightly with just getting a..." - both points are fair, but get Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX and Artisan and Artist ACAM-102 Strap. Careful with cheap grips scratching that finish tho.

Oh man, congrats on the silver M11! Tokyo is going to be absolutely amazing for street photography! I totally feel your pain about the slipperiness tho. When I first got mine, I was literally sweating just holding it over the carpet. I ended up getting a thumb rest first, but honestly? It didnt feel solid enough for me. I eventually switched to a full grip and it changed everything! It makes the camera feel like its actually part of your hand instead of a wet soap bar lol. For my trips, here is what worked:

  • A thick rope strap made a huge difference
  • The metal handgrip gave me way more confidence
  • A spare battery is basically mandatory I seriously love this camera so much now that it feels secure. Youre gonna have a fantastic time out there!
