So I finally treated myself to an M11 after saving up for like two years and now Im honestly terrified of scratching the bottom plate. I've been looking around for a good leather half case because I want that classic look but also some actual protection for when Im out shooting street stuff here in NYC. I spent a whole afternoon on the LeicaTime website and man that site is a nightmare to navigate I couldnt even figure out how to order the specific one I wanted plus I heard the shipping from Italy can be a bit of a gamble lately. Then I looked at Arte di Mano which looks absolutely stunning but their lead times are like 6 weeks and I really need something before my trip to Tokyo at the end of next month. My budget is maybe 250 bucks tops. I saw some cheaper stuff on Amazon like MegaGear but I dont really want to put a cheap case on such an expensive camera you know? It feels wrong. Are there any middle ground brands that have that high quality hand-made feel without the insane price tag or the massive wait times? Ideally I want something with a battery door because unscrewing the whole thing every time I need to charge sounds like a massive pain. Just want something that fits tight and doesnt feel like plastic...

I actually ruined the finish on my old M10 using a cheap knockoff that trapped sand... it was a total disaster. I'd suggest being careful with anything under 100 bucks. Honestly, look at the Lim's Design Leica M11 Half Case Italian Leather. It has the battery door you want and fits perfectly. Just make sure you tighten the screw properly or it might shift while you're walking.

Building on the earlier suggestion, definitely be careful with the inner lining. I once used a case where the suede was actually rough enough to scuff the corners over time... total nightmare. I would suggest:

Any updates on this?

Building on the earlier suggestion, I had issues with several cases not lining up with the M11 battery release properly... it was super frustrating. Unfortunately, many brands ignore the millimetric tolerances needed for that flip-door. Try these:

  • I had a similar scare with my M9 years ago so I totally get the anxiety. Ive been shooting with M systems for a long time now and for me, the priority is always how reliable the fit is over time. I eventually found a setup I am very happy with and I havent had a single issue with scratches or door alignment since. Honestly tho, if youre worried about the battery door mechanics, just jump on YouTube and search Leica M11 leather case review. There is this one really detailed video that popped up recently where the guy compares all the mid-range options side by side. It shows the door mechanism in action which is probably what you need to see before your Tokyo trip. Its like the first or second result that comes up. Check that out first.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've tried a few of those middle-ground brands and honestly they were pretty disappointing. Had issues with the leather stretching out after just a few months and the fit just wasn't as good as expected for the money. It's a shame because some of these brands used to be the go-to choice but quality seems to be slipping. Honestly tho, you're better off just searching for M11 leather case comparison on YouTube. There's a guy who did a massive shootout of like seven different brands recently and it shows exactly how the battery doors line up and how they feel in the hand. Just search that and it's basically the first result. Reddit also has a huge master thread for this too if you just look for it in the Leica sub. Saves a lot of time compared to clicking through a dozen different manufacturer sites that haven't updated their UI since 2005...
