honestly im so fed up with my finger slipping on this M10 shutter... i was thinking a soft release would fix it and im stoked to customize it but then i got stuck worrying about the threads. my logic was a concave one for my Chicago trip tomorrow but i cant find a good brand under 50 bucks...

Regarding what #2 said about brass, over the years I've found the Kompura Brass Concave Soft Release to be superior. Its cheap, fits perfectly, and wont strip M10 threads like steel.

@Reply #1 - good point! Totally agree about the threads being a nightmare if you arent careful. Since you're looking for something under 50 bucks that actually works for that Chicago trip, there are a couple of amazing options that wont ruin your M10. Brass is the way to go because it is a softer metal than the steel shutter assembly. Basically, the button threads will wear down before the camera threads do if there is any friction. This is a crucial technical detail most people miss! I absolutely love these two for daily use:

  • Match Technical Boop-O-S Concave Soft Release 10mm Brass
  • Abrahamsson Softie Classic Concave 15mm Brass These are legendary and usually run around 25 bucks, well under your budget. Pro tip for the trip: buy a pack of tiny rubber O-rings from a hardware store. If you slip one over the threads before screwing the button in, it creates tension that keeps the button from unscrewing itself while you're walking around the city. It also provides a bit of a buffer so you dont over-tighten and stress the internal mechanism. Concave is definitely the right call for better tactile feedback with the tip of your finger. It makes the M10 feel like a totally different machine, honestly. Have a blast in Chicago, the light there is fantastic this time of year...

I bought a cheap one once and it nearly stripped my shutter button because the metal was too hard. It was a nightmare to get off... Now I stick to ones with a tiny rubber washer. It keeps everything snug without having to over-tighten it, which is way safer for the internals.
