So I've been scouring the boards for a week trying to find a flash that doesn't make my M11 look like a total joke and I'm honestly about to give up. My logic was that a small rangefinder needs a small light right? But every compact option is either a massive brick or some cheap plastic toy. I read a bunch of threads saying the Leica SF24D is the gold standard but they're discontinued and people are charging crazy money for them on eBay now... plus I heard they don't even play nice with the newer digital menus sometimes?
Then I looked at the Godox Lux Junior because it has that vintage vibe but I'm worried it feels cheap and the recycle time looks like it'll drive me nuts during a fast street session. I'm heading to London in three weeks for a specific project and really need to get this sorted before then. I've got maybe $200-250 to spend max but I'd rather spend less if the quality is basically the same. Is the LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II actually worth it or is it just a gimmick? I just want something that has decent manual control and won't fall off the hotshoe if I move too fast. Its so annoying that there isnt just one clear winner for this...
In my experience, LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II GN20 Manual isn't a gimmick. I've tested the output consistency and it's surprisingly accurate for the price. The detachable trigger is a huge win.

I have been using the Godox Lux Junior Retro Camera Flash on my M and honestly I am quite satisfied with it. It doesnt feel like a toy once its actually in your hand... the plastic is surprisingly thick and it has a nice weight to it. About the recycle time tho, if you are shooting full power it takes a few seconds but for street stuff you will likely be at 1/8 or 1/16 power and then its basically instant. If you are really worried about reliability and want something that feels more pro I would look for a used Leica SF 40 Flash Unit. It is small enough not to look ridiculous but has way better build quality. I found one second hand within your budget recently and it works well with the digital menus. No complaints so far.
I'm with you on the build quality concerns. In my experience, the mechanical stress on plastic hotshoe mounts during rapid movement often leads to contact issues, regardless of the aesthetic tho.
