Tbh, I'm kinda disappointed with the specs on the Leica D-Lux 8. It's basically the same hardware as the old model, which had some real reliability problems.

  • I had issues with my previous unit where the lens mechanism felt flimsy and eventually developed a weird stutter.
  • The sensor is still the same old Four Thirds chip, which isn't as good as expected for a 2024 release.
  • Dust sealing is still non-existent, which ruined my last trip when the lens sucked in some grit. Before you commit to a pre-order from any of those shops, I have a couple questions:
  • Is the updated physical design the main thing you're after here?
  • Are you okay with the fact that the internal optics haven't actually changed in years?

Quick reply while I have a sec! If you're looking to pre-order but want to be smart with your wallet, definitely check out smaller local dealers like PopFlash or even Camera West. Sometimes they don't charge sales tax if you're out of state which is a massive win on a $1600 camera! Tbh, if you aren't married to the Leica branding, you could just grab a Panasonic Lumix LX100 II and get basically the same technical performance for half the price. I love the new minimalist UI on the Leica D-Lux 8 tho, it looks so clean! Just remember that you're paying a huge premium for that design. If you really want the Leica, some smaller shops might bundle in a Leica D-Lux 8 Handgrip or a strap if you ask nicely... worth a shot to save some dough!

Building on the earlier suggestion, those big retailers are usually the safest bet for a smooth transaction. Ive been satisfied with my orders there for years and they really handle the shipping insurance well, which gives me peace of mind. 1. check for authorized boutique dealers who might have shorter waitlists than the giants

  • look for places that offer a long return window without restocking fees
  • see if any shops are throwing in a free extra battery as a bundle deal Actually reminds me of this one shop I visited while on a road trip through the mountains. They had this incredible vintage sign out front but the inside was basically a museum of old film gear. I ended up talking to the owner for three hours about his collection of old maps instead of cameras. He had this one map from the 1800s that showed trails that dont even exist anymore... anyway lol, sorry kinda went off topic there.
