Ive been sticking to natural light with my X-T5 for ages but I finally signed up to shoot my cousins engagement party in Philly next month and I know the lighting at the venue is gonna be trash. I spent all night looking at reviews and honestly im more confused now lol. I keep seeing the Godox V1 being recommended because of the round head and the price but then some guys on a forum said the TTL can be super inconsistent on Fuji bodies specifically compared to how it works on Sony. The native EF-X500 is way out of my budget since I only got about 250 bucks to spend tops. Is there something that actually talks to the Fuji TTL system properly without me having to mess with it every five seconds...
@Reply #1 - good point! Technically, the Godox TT685II-F Flash for Fujifilm runs the same TTL protocols as the V1 for about $130. Just update the firmware to keep the X-T5 communication stable.
To add to the point above: while Godox is usually the go-to choice, I actually have to disagree slightly about the TTL being perfect out of the box. I remember shooting a crazy reception in a dimly lit hall with my X-T5 and the Godox V1-F Round Head Flash for Fujifilm was bouncing around like crazy with the exposure! Fuji communication protocol is a bit finicky because it handles the pre-flash metering in a way that sometimes confuses third-party controllers if the firmware is old. Its not always just user error, sometimes its just the math not mathing between the body and the flash. If you want that rock-solid TTL feel for your cousins party, here is the technical lowdown:
Honestly, just go with Godox. Seriously! I've been using their stuff on my Fuji gear for years and it's absolutely fantastic. People love to complain about TTL consistency online but half the time its just user error or weird settings in the menu. If you stick with any of the lithium ion battery flashes from them you are gonna have an amazing time at that party. The recycle speeds are just life changing compared to messing with AA batteries all night. Seriously, just pick up any of the higher end speedlights from Godox and dont look back. Its the best value for your money by a mile and honestly works like a charm once you get the hang of it. You dont need to drop massive cash on native gear to get pro results!!
