Top-rated thumb grips for better handling of Fujifilm X-Pro3?

So I finally picked up an X-Pro3 after years with the X-T2 and while I love the OVF the grip feels a bit shallow for my hands when I'm out doing street stuff in Manhattan. My logic was that a thumb grip would fix it instantly but I'm worried about blocking the rear command dial or putting stress on the hot shoe because of that hidden screen hinge.

I looked at the Lensmate ones since they swing out of the way but they're kinda pricey. I'm not sure if the fit is actually flush. I've got about sixty bucks to spend before my trip next Friday so I need something solid. Anyone found a grip that doesn't mess with the dials?

I went through a similar phase with my X-Pro3 trying to save some cash, but unfortunately, most of the budget options were a total letdown for me. I initially tried a generic one from a random brand but it kept sliding out of the hot shoe which is basically a recipe for a dropped camera. Then I tested the Haoge THB-XP3B Thumb Rest for Fujifilm X-Pro3 and while the build quality is decent for thirty bucks, it sadly blocks the rear command dial just enough to be annoying when youre shooting fast. Its not as good as expected because you have to shift your whole grip just to change settings, which kinda ruins the flow of street photography. I eventually gave in and tried the Lensmate X-Pro3 Folding Thumb Grip Aluminum because of the hinge. It fits flush and doesnt stress the hot shoe, but the price tag is honestly hard to swallow for a small piece of metal. It solves the dial issue because it swings out, but Ive noticed the hinge gets a bit loose over time which is frustrating given what it costs. If youre on a budget for your trip, the Haoge is the most solid choice even with the dial issues, but honestly, none of these feel perfect. Id definitely skip the generic unbranded stuff since they never sit right against the body and just feel cheap... it just wont give you that secure feeling youre looking for.

I went with the JJC TA-XPRO3 Thumbs Up Grip thinking I could save some money for film, but honestly it was a huge disappointment. After one weekend out, the fit got so loose it almost fell off. If you need a budget fix that actually works, I switched to the Haoge THB-X3B Metal Thumb Grip for Fujifilm X-Pro3 and its way more solid for half the price of the fancy ones. It doesnt wiggle.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

I've been shooting with Fuji systems since the early days, and over the years I've seen plenty of people regret sticking cheap accessories into their hot shoes. The X-Pro3 is a bit of a special case because of that hidden screen design and how the dials are positioned. Before you drop your sixty bucks, I've got a couple of questions to help figure out what fits you best:

  • Are you shooting with larger lenses like the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR or just sticking to the small f2 primes?
  • Do you use the rear command dial constantly for settings, or is it mostly set and forget for you? In my experience, if a thumb rest has even a tiny bit of play, it can eventually warp the hot shoe rails under tension. You should definitely check out the FujiX-Forum or the hardware sections on Fred Miranda. There are some deep-dive threads there from people who have used various setups for years. Sometimes it's better to look at a bottom-mounted solution like the Fujifilm MHG-XPRO3 Metal Hand Grip to avoid the hot shoe stress entirely, tho that might be tight on your budget unless you find a used one. It doesn't interfere with the dials or the screen hinge at all.
