Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a thumb grip and a half case for the Fuji X-E4 that actually fits right and doesnt block the dial? I just picked this body up after shooting with an X-T2 for like six years and honestly the ergonomics are freaking me out a bit because its so flat. I love the rangefinder style for the street photography trip Im taking to Tokyo in three weeks but its like holding a bar of soap and I keep feeling like its gonna slip right out of my hand.
I already tried one of those cheap ten dollar thumb rests from Amazon but the fit was terrible and it kept wiggling in the hot shoe which makes me nervous about damaging the electronics. I really need something that feels secure and doesnt wiggle when I put pressure on it. Also looking for a leather half case that actually has a cutout for the battery door because I dont want to be unscrewing the whole thing every time I need to swap a card or battery while Im out walking around.
Im getting pretty anxious about the timeline here so I need to buy something that actually works the first time around and wont take forever to ship...
I totally get the frustration because the X-E4 ergonomics are honestly a letdown compared to the X-T2. I had a really hard time finding gear that didnt feel like a cheap afterthought. Most generic grips I tried were just loose and felt like they were gonna snap the hot shoe, which is pretty scary on a new body. It is disappointing how many brands get the measurements wrong for this specific camera. If you want to avoid the junk, here is what I ended up keeping:
Just found this thread and unfortunately I have wasted way too much money on accessories that didnt fit right. Like someone mentioned, those cheap grips are usually total junk that wiggle around and honestly feel like they might snap the hot shoe. I had issues with a few generic brands before finding a combo that worked without costing a fortune. The Haoge THB-X4B Thumb Up Grip for Fujifilm X-E4 is probably your best bet for a secure fit. It is way better than the generic ten dollar stuff but much cheaper than the official Fuji one. For the case, I would look at the TP Original Fujifilm X-E4 Leather Half Case with Battery Opening. It has the bottom door so you wont be unscrewing anything to get your SD card or battery out. It is not as fancy as the boutique leather brands, but it stops the camera from feeling like a bar of soap. Good luck with the Tokyo trip... you are gonna need that extra grip for all the walking.
Since you are heading to Tokyo in like three weeks, you might want to consider skipping the budget options entirely. I would suggest being really careful because a loose grip can actually bend the hot shoe rails if you put too much pressure on it during a long day of shooting.
Adding my two cents... watch for grips without rubber pads since theyll scratch your hot shoe.
Exactly what I was thinking
