What are the absolute must-have accessories for the Fuji X-T50 because honestly im struggling so much with the handling right now? I just got the camera for a trip to Japan in like four days and while the photos are great the body is just so tiny and slick i feel like im gonna drop it every five minutes which is stressing me out.

The battery is also dying way faster than I expected just testing it in the backyard... I have maybe $200 left for extras and really need a grip or a thumb rest or something that actually stays on. Does anyone have a specific brand they recommend that doesnt cost a fortune? I need to order this stuff tonight or it wont get here in time.

To add to the point above: unfortunately, that small form factor looks cool in photos but is a total nightmare for actual shooting if you have anything bigger than tiny hands. I had issues with my X-T30 (the predecessor) basically sliding out of my palm during a humid street shoot in Tokyo a couple years back. It was honestly a disaster waiting to happen and made me hate the camera for a few days because I was so focused on not dropping it instead of actually taking pictures. I tried some cheap generic thumb rests from Amazon but they kept wiggling loose in the hot shoe which is super annoying and honestly kinda dangerous for the port if it gets snagged. If you want something that actually stays put, get the Lensmate Fujifilm X-T50 Folding Thumb Grip. It is way more expensive than the knockoffs but it wont budge and it folds out of the way when you need to get to the dials. Also, for that drop anxiety, a wrist strap is way better than a neck strap imo. I use the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap and it gives me way more peace of mind when I am hanging the camera over a bridge or a busy balcony. Regarding the battery... yeah, it is pretty disappointing how fast they drain when you are actually using the EVF and film sims. Since you are in a rush and on a budget, maybe look at the Wasabi Power Battery 2-Pack for Fujifilm NP-W126S with the dual charger. They dont last quite as long as the originals but having spares in your pocket is the only way to survive a full day of sightseeing. Quick tip: turn off the Pre-AF setting in the menu, it hunts constantly and kills the battery for no reason.

Over the years, I've learned that the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-T50 is essential for safety. I once dropped my gear in Kyoto... never again. Grab a Fujifilm NP-W126S Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery too.

Just saw this and ngl the X-T50 is a bit of a soap bar without extras!! Youre gonna have an amazing time in Japan tho, its literally the best place for street photography. Since youre on a budget and need it fast, these are my absolute favorites for reliability:

^ This. Also, honestly, I felt the exact same way when I got mine. It was so disappointing to realize that this expensive piece of gear felt so flimsy in my hands. I almost sent it back because I just couldnt get a solid grip on it. My first attempt at fixing it was a disaster too. I bought a cheap plastic grip that felt worse than the camera itself. I eventually found a better metal one, the Haoge HG-XT50 Hand Grip, which actually made it feel like a real tool instead of a toy. I also learned the hard way that the batteries just dont last if youre using the rear screen a lot. I was so frustrated by it dying during a sunset shoot that I just gave up on carrying five spares and started using my Anker 533 Power Bank PowerCore 30W with a cable. It kept the camera topped up while I was walking between spots. It is not as elegant as a big battery but it worked. I also added a Vancity 604 Wood Soft Release Button because the shutter button felt way too recessed. I did try a thumb rest but it actually snagged on my bag and slightly bent the hot shoe frame, so I stopped using them entirely. Just wasnt worth the risk for me.

I agree, its honestly ridiculous how manufacturers prioritize aesthetic over ergonomics.

  • Form factor specifications are failing.
  • Pricing is a scam. Drives me crazy that functional handling is now an expensive afterthought.
