Ive been shooting with Fuji for like seven years now and I always trusted my X-T4 and the WR lenses in light drizzle, never had an issue until last week. I was out near the coast in Oregon and got absolutely caught in this freak sideways rainstorm and even though I had my gear tucked away in my old canvas bag, the moisture totally seeped through. Everything got damp and it scared the life out of me because I am heading to the Scottish Highlands next month for a big solo trip and I cannot have my gear bricking on me out there.

My logic was that a simple rain cover would be enough but honestly they are such a pain to pull out in a hurry and they never fit right anyway. I was thinking maybe the Peak Design Everyday but Ive heard mixed things about those zips in actual heavy rain plus the X-T5 with a couple f2 primes is a weird size for some of those bags. I need something thats actually rugged and waterproof without being a massive tactical rucksack. Budget is around 250 bucks maybe 300 if its really worth it but I am honestly just spiraling a bit looking at all these reviews that say weather resistant when they really just mean splash proof. Are the Wandrd bags actually good for this or should I be looking at something like F-Stop? I need to get this sorted in the next two weeks before I fly out...

> moisture totally seeped through. Everything got damp and it scared the life out of me Been thinking about your situation for a bit and honestly, canvas is the enemy in those coastal storms. For the Highlands, you really want something with a roll-top or a heavy TPU coating. If you are trying to stay under that $250 mark, you might want to consider the Wandrd PRVKE 21L V2 with Photography Bundle. The tarpaulin material is basically bombproof, though be careful with the side access zipper since that is usually the first place moisture tries to sneak in. Quick question tho before I give more advice, are you planning on doing long treks or just short walks from a car? If you are hiking miles, I would suggest looking at the Shimoda Action X30 V2 with Medium Mirrorless Core Unit instead because the harness is way better, but it might push your budget. Just let me know your typical mileage so I can see what fits better.

Just saw this and honestly, the Highlands will eat most 'lifestyle' bags for breakfast. I've been through a dozen setups over the years and most of those trendy bags are just overpriced fashion. Quick question first tho - are you doing serious miles on foot or mostly sticking near the road? That'll change my advice on the harness system. For Scotland, comfort is just as big as weatherproofing if you're out all day. In my experience, you should look at:

  • Just about anything from Chrome Industries because they use heavy truck tarps
  • Any of the rugged lines from Think Tank Photo
  • Simple waterproof inserts to beef up a bag you already own You really dont need to blow $300 to keep gear dry if you prioritize the materials over the looks. Brands that make gear for bike messengers or actual mountain trekking usually handle sideways rain way better than the stuff marketed at influencers.

  • actually waterproof Simple as that.
