What are you guys actually using for monitors and cages on the Fuji X-H2S right now? I am finally switching over from Sony for my wedding work here in Chicago and need to build this out by next month. My budget is around $800 total for both.

I saw the SmallRig cage is basically the standard but then I saw a Tilta one with a cooling fan attachment. It seems cool for 4k120 but is it overkill for weddings? Also super stuck on the monitor. Everyone says Ninja V but the X-H2S already does internal ProRes so is it a waste to get a recorder? Maybe just a Shinobi? I just want something bright enough for outdoor ceremonies but the latency talk online is confusing...

Honestly, I went through a phase of over-rigging my setup when I first switched over. I actually bought one of those cages with the built-in fan attachments because I was terrified of the camera shutting down during a ceremony. It was a total headache... the fan was buzzy and just added weight I didnt need for a long day. I learned the hard way that less is usually more when you're running around a wedding. A few things I've learned from my own gear mistakes:

  • Fan attachments are mostly overkill and just add bulk.
  • Monitor latency can really mess up your timing for manual focus.
  • High brightness is way more important than external recording. I would suggest being really careful about the weight tho. I used a heavy monitor once and my wrist was wrecked by the time the reception started. Stick to something simple so you dont regret it.
