Ive been shooting on Fuji since the X-T3 days but just upgraded to the X-H2S for that internal ProRes. The body is way chunkier than what I'm used to and my old rigging gear is totally useless now. I'm preping for a shoot in London next month and really need to get the cage and monitor situation sorted. I'm worried about the fan vent being blocked by certain cages or if the cage acts like a heat sink? I need a monitor that plays nice with the full-size HDMI port without being too heavy. Budget is around 600 pounds for both. Is the Tilta cage better for cooling than SmallRig? And what 5-inch monitor are you guys running...
Late to the party but I love this setup! The SmallRig 3934 Full Cage for FUJIFILM X-H2S is a total steal and leaves plenty of room for cooling vents. For the screen, you gotta go with the Atomos Shinobi 5-inch 4K HDMI Monitor. Its super light and wont break the bank! Youll easily stay under that 600 budget and have money left for extra batteries. Its a killer combo!
Just catching up on this thread while waiting for some files to transfer. I went through this exact struggle when I upgraded recently. I thought my old kit would work, but everything was just slightly off. In my experience, the biggest thing I learned was about balance. I once rigged up a monitor on top and the whole thing kept tipping forward because the cage didnt have enough mounting points at the back to offset the weight. It was a nightmare on a long handheld shoot in the heat. Ive tried many rigs and honestly, the heat sink effect is real. One setup I had actually trapped heat because it was way too snug around the camera body. These days, I look for something that gives the ports and vents plenty of breathing room. I eventually settled on a setup that lets me swap batteries without taking the rig apart... huge relief compared to my first attempt.
