Ive been flying drones for years now so I totally get the whole 180 degree shutter rule but I just picked up the Mavic 3 and the dual lens setup is kinda throwing me for a loop. Im heading to Maui next month for a wedding shoot and really need a solid set of NDs that wont mess with the color profile too much because I heard the telephoto lens can get some weird tints with cheap glass. My budget is around 150 bucks for the set. I was looking at the Freewell ones but there are so many versions I cant tell which one is the sweet spot for high sun. What are you guys actually using on your M3 these days?

Yo! Honestly, that dual lens setup is a beast but yeah, cheap glass will totally ruin your telephoto shots. Ive been super satisfied with the Freewell DJI Mavic 3 ND Filter Bright Day 6-Pack for a while now. The color neutrality is actually impressive for the price, especially when you punch in on the 162mm lens... no weird magenta shifts or anything. Here is what I found testing a few:

So, looking at the technical side of the Mavic 3 sensors, that telephoto lens is definitely more sensitive to glass quality than the main Hasselblad. I have been extremely satisfied using the NiSi Filters DJI Mavic 3 Cinema Filter Kit 4-Pack for my recent bright daylight shoots. NiSi uses high-definition optical glass that basically eliminates the infrared light pollution you sometimes get with cheaper NDs, which is what causes those weird magenta or green shifts on the tele lens. Here is how I break down the picks for Maui sun:

  • NiSi Filters DJI Mavic 3 Cinema Filter Kit 4-Pack: This one works well for color accuracy. It includes ND8, ND16, ND32, and ND64. Since you are doing a wedding, you wont have time to mess with heavy color correction in post. The Nano coating is legit for repelling sea spray, which you will definitely encounter on the coast.
  • K&F Concept DJI Mavic 3 ND Filter Set 6-Pack: If you want to save some cash but still get decent results, these are a solid value. They use Japanese AGC glass and the frame is super light. The color is mostly neutral, tho I noticed a tiny bit of warmth on the tele lens compared to the wide sensor. Still very usable for the price.
  • Freewell DJI Mavic 3 All Day 8-Pack: This set is great if you want total coverage. It adds a CPL and higher density NDs like ND1000 for long exposures. No complaints with the light transmission data on these, tho the NiSi feels slightly more premium to me. Ngl, for a high-stakes wedding, the NiSi is probably the sweet spot because of that IR coating. It just makes the workflow so much smoother when both lenses match perfectly.

Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!

Re: "Yo! Honestly, that dual lens setup is a..." - jumping in to say I agree with Freewell being the budget king, but for a wedding in Maui, you might want more consistency. Ive found PolarPro stays truer to the sensor's profile.

  • the PolarPro DJI Mavic 3 Shutter Collection 3-Pack is super reliable.
  • glass quality is just a step up, honestly. Maui sun is intense tho, so you might need something higher than an ND32 if youre shooting at noon... just to be safe.
