honestly so fed up with these soft bags because my mavic 3 almost got crushed in my truck yesterday... my logic was the official bag would be enough but it isnt. need a real hard shell case for my trip to iceland next month. budget is around 150 bucks so what actually holds up?

I actually had a similar scare with my gear in the back of a truck, so I totally get why you are done with soft bags. For a trip to Iceland, you definitely need something that can handle moisture and potential impacts. I would suggest looking into the Lykus Titan MA320 Waterproof Hard Case for DJI Mavic 3. It is well within your budget and honestly feels more durable than some of the more expensive brands I have tried. There are a few technical details you might want to consider when making your choice:

  • Look for an IP67 waterproof rating. Iceland has unpredictable weather, and you dont want sea spray or rain seeping into the electronics while you are moving between locations.
  • Check the pressure equalization valve. This is important for air travel. Without a proper valve, the pressure change can make the case nearly impossible to open once you land.
  • Make sure the foam is precision-cut. You want the drone and the controller to fit snugly without any rattling. If the gear can shift even a millimeter, the gimbal might take a hit during a bumpy ride. Be careful with the cheaper generic brands you see online. I have noticed that the plastic on those can become brittle in cold temperatures, which is a major risk in a place like Iceland. The Lykus case uses a high-grade polypropylene that should stay solid. It is a much safer bet for protecting your investment.

Regarding what #3 said about "ngl i totally get the anxiety... i actually..." i have been there and it is honestly the worst feeling. unfortunately i had issues with some of the cases people usually suggest in these threads. the seals just arent as good as expected and i have seen moisture seep in during heavy rain which is a nightmare when you are carrying thousands in gear. if youre going to iceland, you really cant afford to take risks with cheap latches or thin shells. i would honestly ignore the earlier suggestions and look for:

  • industrial grade shells
  • high density foam that wont flake or crush
  • metal reinforced padlock holes just get any drone case from GPC. you cant go wrong with them and they are basically the only brand i trust for travel now. i have used a bunch of different ones over the years and keep coming back because everything else feels kinda flimsy by comparison. they are built like tanks and wont let you down when the weather gets nasty.

been using pelican cases for ages and honestly never had a single issue. i am super satisfied with the Pelican 1450 Case with Foam for my mavic setup. compared to the gpc cases or those cheaper knockoffs, the seals on the pelican just feel way more substantial. i actually trust it to get dunked and stay dry which is peace of mind you cant really buy. iceland is incredible btw... you are gonna love the landscapes. when i went, i spent way too much time hunting for decent espresso in reykjavik instead of actually flying. found this tiny spot that had the best cinnamon rolls i have ever tasted in my life. i still think about that place whenever i see a dji drone now for some reason. anyway, pelican is the way to go for sure.

just caught this thread and figured id chime in. if youre heading to iceland, you definitely need something with a legit pressure valve and high ip rating because the weather there is basically a blender of rain and wind. for a mavic 3 setup, the Nanuk 915 Case for DJI Mavic 3 is probably your best bet around that 150 mark. its got those powerclaw latches which are way more secure than the standard snap-on ones you find on cheaper cases. they actually lock down and wont pop open if the case takes a tumble in your truck bed. another solid option is the GPC DJI Mavic 3 Hard Case. gpc uses water-jet cut foam instead of the cheaper die-cut stuff. it holds its shape much better over time and wont start shedding bits of foam into your gimbal or motors after a few months of use. quick tip: always check the o-ring seal for any dust or hair before you close it up. even a tiny bit of grit can break the vacuum seal and let moisture in when the temps drop near those glaciers. look for an ip67 rating specifically... that means its dust-tight and can handle being submerged for a bit. both of these cases handle the pressure changes on the plane too so you wont have to pry the lid open with a screwdriver after you land in reykjavik.

ngl i totally get the anxiety... i actually had a case once that looked tough but the latches were garbage and it popped open in the trunk of my car. drone survived but i was shaking. iceland is gonna be brutal on gear so honestly just be careful with what you pick. a few things i learned after almost losing my kit:

  • skip the cheap generic stuff from random sites even if the price is tempting
  • make sure the foam is precut specifically for your drone model... that pick and pluck stuff eventually falls apart and leaves your gear rattling around
  • check if it has a really solid pressure valve because the elevation changes and air travel can sometimes make cases impossible to open my current setup has a thick rubber seal which was a lifesaver when i got caught in a downpour last year. i learned my lesson after a boat trip where my old bag leaked and i had to dry everything out with rice. stay safe out there tho.
