Whats actually the fastest way to blast out an Amazon wish list to like 50 people without it looking like spam or getting blocked? Ive been using Amazon for a decade, like I know how the Invite button works usually but I am hitting a real wall today. Im planning my daughters 5th birthday party here in Seattle next month and for the first time the Share with others link is acting super glitchy on my mobile app. Usually I just copy the URL and send it over but now its giving me these weird options like Invite to View versus Invite to Edit and it seems to be forcing a login on their end? I definitely dont want people editing the list or adding their own stuff but when I try to text the link to some of the other moms it sends this massive preview image that takes up the whole screen and sometimes the link just goes to a 404 page for them which is so frustrating.

I have about 30 items on there right now mostly LEGO sets and some outdoor gear for the yard. I need to get this sent out by Friday at the latest so people have time to order and get shipping sorted before the party on the 15th. Here is what I have tried so far:

  • copying the direct browser URL which seemed to fail for mobile users
  • using the Share via Email button but that takes way too long for 50 people
  • making it public and searchable but my name is way too common

I thought about just making the list Public and telling people to search my name but my name is so common they would be scrolling through hundreds of people and probably end up buying some random persons stuff lol. Is there a way to generate a clean short link or something that actually works every time? I even tried one of those third party link shorteners but then the Amazon app wouldnt open the link directly it just stayed in the mobile browser and half the people werent logged in on Safari so they couldnt see the Prime prices or the Add to Cart button was missing for them. Is there a specific setting in the app I missed or did they change the UI again recently? Just looking for the most foolproof way to get this into a group text without it becoming a total tech support nightmare for me...

@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly its ridiculous how Amazon makes sharing so hard. I dealt with this for a baby shower recently and it was a total mess. Drives me crazy because we spend way too much on Prime!

  • mobile app is a disaster
  • hate the forced guest logins
  • basically a scam Quick question tho, are you on iOS? The iPhone version is way buggier. Maybe Cart To Link is better for next time!

The Amazon app UI is basically a puzzle box at this point. I went through this exact headache for my nephews birthday last year and it was a total nightmare. The mobile app changes every three days I swear... If you want to get those LEGO sets sorted for the Seattle party without the 404 errors, try these two options:

  • Convert it to a Birthday Registry. If you switch it from a standard Wish List to a Kids Birthday Registry, the sharing link is way more stable. It gives people a much cleaner interface and handles the purchased marking better than a standard list. Pros: No Invite to Edit confusion and it wont glitch out on mobile nearly as much. Cons: You gotta spend five minutes filling out the registry event info first.
  • Use the Desktop Site. Log in on a laptop instead of using your phone. Go to the list, hit Send list to others and pick View Only. Copy that specific URL. For some reason, links generated on the desktop site dont trigger that massive, ugly preview image in texts that takes up the whole screen. Pros: Usually bypasses that weird login loop you mentioned. Cons: Still might ask for a login if they want to see Prime shipping dates. Personally, I think registries are the way to go for 50 people. It feels more official for a party and you wont have people accidentally editing your stuff or seeing the wrong prices. It saved my sanity last time.
