Is there seriously no way to just send a full Amazon cart to someone else? I have been sitting here for two hours in Ohio trying to help my dad get everything ready for his garage renovation and I am about to lose my mind. I picked out all the specific organization bins and power tools he needs because he isnt great with tech but I cant find a simple button to just hand the cart over to him. I looked online and people mentioned some Share-a-Cart browser extension thing but the reviews look kinda shady and I really dont want to risk putting weird software on his laptop. I also saw the thing about making a public wishlist but that seems like a total nightmare because he would still have to click every single item and add it back to his cart one by one which he will definitely mess up or buy the wrong size of something. The contractor is supposed to start work on Monday so I need these tools here by Friday at the latest. Does Amazon have a hidden feature for this or is there a way to do it through the app that isnt a total headache? I just want him to be able to click one link and pay with his own card without me having to log into his account and deal with two-factor authentication for the tenth time today...

@Reply #1 - good point! I had the exact same nightmare when I was setting up my home gym last year! But listen, there is actually a fantastic trick with the public wishlist. If you send him the link, there is a sneaky Add all to cart button at the top. It is amazing because it moves everything at once so he wont miss a single screw! Tbh it totally saved my sanity!

Man, I feel your pain. I spent an entire weekend last summer trying to do the exact same thing for my uncle when he was rebuilding his deck. I thought for sure a company as big as Amazon would have a simple share button by now but they really make it way harder than it needs to be for some reason. I have looked at those third-party extensions like the one you mentioned and honestly, I would suggest being super careful. Some of them track your browsing data or have access to way too much info, which is a major red flag if you are worried about your dads security. I eventually found a workaround using the list feature that actually works if you follow a specific order. I tried just sending links at first but he kept getting the wrong sizes for the shelving units. Here is what I did to keep things simple and avoid the two-factor mess:

  • Create a brand new Wish List specifically for the garage project.
  • Move every single item from your cart into that new list using the move to list button.
  • Change the list settings to Shared and email or text him the direct link.
  • Have him open it on a laptop, not his phone, and look for the Add all to cart button at the top. It is the only way to avoid the nightmare without using sketchy software like Share-A-Cart which I personally avoid. Be careful though, because if an item goes out of stock while it is in the list, that Add all button sometimes just disappears without warning. I had to walk my uncle through it over the phone for an hour because he couldnt find the button at first... it is definitely not a perfect system but it beats logging in for him.

^ This. Also, I totally get the hesitation with those browser extensions because I am the exact same way. I had a nightmare scenario once where I tried a random tool to help me sync a shopping list for a shed build and it basically broke my browser till I wiped the cache... not fun. My current setup involves being super careful about how those items get grouped together because Amazon can be weird about taxes and shipping speeds depending on the state too. Here are some things I learned the hard way while trying to manage a big order for someone else:

  • Shipping costs can fluctuate wildly if you are not careful about which seller is actually fulfilling the order.
  • Sometimes the coupons you see in your account wont actually apply for the person who is paying, so the final price might be higher than you expect.
  • Keep a backup list of the exact item names in a note somewhere just in case the cart link decides to expire or glitch out. Its honestly such a headache that they havent fixed this yet. It makes it so hard to help out family members who arent great with the app and it feels like you are doing the work twice. Just a tip: Cart To Link is really handy if you're collaborating on a project and need the same parts.
