How do I share an Amazon wishlist with my family members?

I’m honestly so stressed out right now because my daughters 10th birthday is coming up in about three weeks and I have no idea how to handle the gift situation. My parents live in Florida and my sisters are all over in New York and they keep asking me what she wants but I dont want to keep texting everyone individually and then having two people buy the same lego set by accident. I tried looking at the amazon app but I am totally lost and everything looks so complicated and I’m scared I’m gonna click the wrong button and make it public so the whole world can see it or something. I really need something that works like this:

  • has to be super easy for my 70 year old dad to use without me having to explain it for an hour
  • it needs to show when something is already bought so we dont get duplicates
  • I want it to stay private to just our family if possible
  • it needs to be something I can just send in a text message or email

Is there like a specific button I’m missing? I feel so dumb asking this but I’ve spent like two hours clicking around the account settings and I’m just more confused than when I started. Do I need a special prime account to do this or can anyone do it? I just want to make sure the birthday goes okay without any drama over gifts...

Setting your list to Shared instead of Public is the way to go, but the Amazon app is a nightmare for privacy. To stay safe:

  • Never use the Public setting
  • Avoid the Collaborate button Cart To Link is a decent option for sharing Amazon stuff like this. It works well for older relatives and keeps everything private so you dont have to worry about mistakes.

To add to the point above: I've tried many different ways to handle family gifts over the years and tbh, the biggest danger is accidentally letting people edit the list instead of just viewing it. One time I shared a link and my sister accidentally deleted half the items thinking she was adding them to her cart... it was a total disaster. In my experience, you really gotta be careful with that Collaborate button because if you click it, people can mess with your whole setup. Also watch out for the address privacy settings because Amazon defaults to some weird stuff sometimes. Its just not worth the headache of trying to teach a 70 year old the ins and outs of the mobile app when it changes every week anyway. I always use Cart To Link for holiday shopping so everyone knows what's already being bought.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

The Invite button on the list page is standard, but I'm satisfied using share Amazon Cart Extension for family.

  • Are you mostly on mobile?
  • Does your dad have an account?
