I'm finally upgrading my gear for a big hiking trip to Iceland next month and I'm honestly stuck on which tripod to get for my Canon R6. I saw a lot of hype for the Peak Design Carbon Fiber one but its like $600 which is way out of my budget. Then I looked at the Manfrotto BeFree Live but some people mentioned the twist locks get stuck in the sand really easily and it seems kinda heavy for travel.

I really need:

  • something under $300
  • light enough for 10 mile hikes
  • fits inside a standard carry-on bag
  • sturdy enough for long exposures

Is there a specific Benro or Sirui model that actually stays stable in the wind? I just dont want my camera tipping over into a glacier...

Hey, glad youre looking at these brands because they hit that price-performance sweet spot. Quick clarification tho, what lenses are you taking? Heavy glass makes a huge difference for stability in that Iceland wind. Heres a couple others:

Re: "I've shot in Iceland and the wind is..." yeah, the wind there is pretty brutal. For under $300, the Sirui AM-254 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a great shout. It doesnt have a center column, which makes it way more rigid in those gusts.

  • Weight: Only 2.2 lbs
  • Capacity: Handles 26 lbs
  • Size: 17 inches folded Its a solid budget-friendly alternative to the PD stuff and fits in carry-ons easily.

I've shot in Iceland and the wind is basically a tripod killer. Quick question, what's the heaviest lens you're packing, and do you prioritize max height or weight more?
