I just got my first real camera which is a Canon R7 and I have no clue what I am doing honestly. I tried taking some photos of the sunset last night and they were all blurry because my hands shake too much lol so I think I need a tripod but when I look online there are like a million options and I dont understand the difference between carbon fiber or aluminum or what a ball head even is. Is it better to get a tall one or a short one? I really dont want to spend a fortune because the camera already cost me a lot but I want something that wont fall over if there is a bit of wind. I am planning a trip to the coast in Oregon next month so I need to find something soon.
Here is what I am looking for:
Sorry if these are really basic questions I just feel totally overwhelmed looking at all the specs on Amazon and I dont want to buy something that breaks in a week. Does anyone have a specific brand they like for beginners? I keep seeing Manfrotto and Peak Design mentioned but those look really expensive for me right now...
I've been really satisfied with the K&F Concept S210 Aluminum Tripod for my mirrorless gear.
Like someone mentioned, it really boils down to balancing weight against your budget. We have seen a solid aluminum pick and a budget carbon fiber option so far. For a reliable middle ground, I have been very satisfied with the Vanguard VEO 3GO 235AB Aluminum Travel Tripod for my own setup. It fits the R7 perfectly and stays well under your $150 limit. The leg locks are methodical and easy to use even if you arent tech savvy. One practical tip for the Oregon coast: dont worry about the tripod being too light. Just make sure it has a weight hook on the center column. You can hang your backpack there to stop the wind from shaking things... it works wonders. Basically, you get the portability for your hike without sacrificing the stability you need for those long sunset exposures. Its a much better way to save money than buying a massive, heavy rig youll hate carrying.
Saw this earlier but just getting around to it... since you are hiking a few miles, you really want to avoid heavy gear. Carbon fiber is usually crazy expensive but the Sirui Traveler 5C Carbon Fiber Tripod is a rare budget find that stays light. Just be careful on the coast tho. Its so light that a big gust might knock it over, so make sure to hang your backpack on the center hook to keep it grounded.
