So i just got this Canon Rebel T7 a few months ago because i wanted to take better pictures of my sisters kids and her upcoming baby shower but man the indoor shots are just... not good. they all look super dark or like weirdly yellow if i use the lights in my house. and if i use that little flash that pops up on top of the camera it makes everyone look like ghosts or they have red eyes and its just super harsh and ugly. i heard i need something called a speedlite? or a flash gun? i honestly dont know the difference or if they are the same thing but i just need something to make the lighting look professional like those photos you see on pinterest.

im really sorry if this is like a super basic thing to ask but i am totally lost looking at amazon. there are so many brands like godox and yongnuo and canon and the prices are all over the place. i saw some that are like $500 which is way more than i paid for the camera itself lol so i definitely cant do that. im looking to spend maybe $100 or $150 max if i can. also i read somewhere online that the T7 is weird with flashes? something about a pin in the middle of the spot where you slide the flash in? i looked at mine and there is just a big hole in the middle where it seems like a metal dot should be... i hope i didnt buy a broken camera but some people were saying certain flashes wont work with it because of that.

here is what im looking for:

  • has to work with the rebel t7 obviously lol
  • budget around $100-$150
  • easy to learn because manual settings still scare me
  • good for indoor parties and maybe some outdoor stuff in the evening
  • not too heavy because i have small hands

if anyone has this camera and found a flash that actually works without being a total nightmare to set up please let me know. i live in ohio and its getting dark so early now so i really need to figure this out before the baby shower next month. do i need to buy batteries for these too or do they charge with a usb? so many questions sorry...

Canon just made things a bit difficult for beginners lol. I am super satisfied with the Godox TT350C Mini TTL Flash for Canon because its lightweight for smaller hands. It has TTL which is basically auto mode for lighting... seriously a lifesaver for indoor parties. It uses AA batteries, so no USB charging, but it definitely fits your budget.

In my experience, that missing center pin on the T7 is a common hurdle, but your camera isnt broken. These specific units are compatible with your mount:

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
