jumped from my 5D to an R6 mark ii and the battery drain is insane. ive shot canon for years so i know the LPE6 series well but mirrorless just eats them.

my logic was to grab cheap Wasabi spares but i heard the firmware limits burst mode on third party stuff now. i dont wanna drop 80 bucks a pop on official batteries since i need three spares for an iceland trip next month.

i was looking at those SmallRig ones with the USB-C port built in but idk if they actually hold a charge or if theyre risky. anyone tried those or maybe the Nitecore chargers? budget is tight so i need the best bang for my buck...

Oh man I totally love my R6 ii but the battery life is wild! I was super scared of frying my gear so I did a ton of research. Honestly the SmallRig LP-E6NH USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery is amazing! It supports the full burst speed and charging via USB-C is such a fantastic way to save cash on extra chargers. Super reliable so far!

  • unfortunately i had issues with the whole third party battery thing and it just wasnt as good as expected, especially when things get cold. before i get into it tho, are you mostly gonna be doing long exposures for the aurora or just standard daylight stuff? this honestly reminds me of when my buddy went on a trip and tried to save a few bucks on power. it turned into this whole ordeal where his charger literally started melting in the hotel room. we spent half the night trying to find a local shop that even sold camera gear but everything was closed because it was a holiday... he was so stressed out he barely even looked at the landscape for the first two days. it was such a bummer to watch. i just hate seeing people get stuck with gear that fails when it actually matters.
