So I just got my first real camera it is a Canon EOS R10 and I am honestly so overwhelmed with all the buttons and settings. My brothers wedding is in ten days and I really want to record some 4K video of the ceremony but I am terrified the card I have wont work or it will just stop recording mid way through. I currently have this old card I found in a drawer that says Class 10 on it but when I tried to film for like thirty seconds it gave me a warning message about the write speed being too slow? I dont even know what that means and it made me really nervous.

I looked on Amazon and there are like a million options with all these weird symbols like V30 and V60 and UHS-II and the prices are all over the place. Im on a tight budget after spending so much on the camera so I dont want to buy something expensive if I dont have to but I also dont want to ruin the wedding videos. Is there like one specific brand or model that everyone uses for Canon? Do I need the really expensive ones with the two rows of pins on the back or is the cheaper one okay for 4K? I really have no idea what Im doing and I feel like I might break something... what should I actually buy?

Congrats on the R10! Its such an amazing little beast of a camera! Seriously, dont panic about that write speed warning, its basically just the card saying it cant keep up with the massive amount of data 4K video shoots out. You definitely dont need those super expensive UHS-II cards with the double pins for your brothers wedding. Honestly, for the R10s 4K bitrates, a solid V30 card is all you need to keep things running smooth without breaking the bank! I personally love the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 because its incredibly reliable and usually has great deals on Amazon. Another fantastic budget pick is the Samsung PRO Plus 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30. Both are way faster than that old Class 10 card and will handle the ceremony perfectly. Just make sure to format the card in the camera menu before you start shooting! Youre gonna do an awesome job!

Im with you on the budget panic. Over the years, Ive found Samsung EVO Plus 128GB microSDXC V30 is cheap but overheats, while Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 128GB SDXC V30 stays rock solid.

To add to the point above: while everyone agrees V30 is the spec to hit and those UHS-II cards are overkill, I've been pretty disappointed with some 'budget' favorites lately. Unfortunately, I've seen cheap cards fail during long 4K recordings because they just cant handle the heat of a ceremony. If you want something that wont let you down, I'd go with the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-I V30 128GB. It's more reliable than the standard retail stuff you find at the supermarket. The Delkin Devices Advantage 128GB SDXC V30 is also great and wont break the bank tho. Just make sure you format the card in your camera menu before you start shooting... I've seen too many people skip that and regret it later.

I went through this exact same stress when I first started out. I spent days comparing every major brand like SanDisk and Lexar and Sony, trying to see which one was actually worth the premium price. Truthfully, the best thing you can do is just check the official Canon support site for the R10. They have a massive table that lists every compatible speed class and brand theyve actually tested. I also found a really solid comparison video on YouTube a while back where a guy ran tests on like fifteen different cards to see which ones overheated during long 4K takes. Just search something like R10 4K video card benchmarks on Google or YouTube and it should be right at the top. Its way better to see the actual data there than just taking a guess... thats how I figured out which brand was actually reliable versus just being expensive marketing. Definitely worth five minutes of searching so you dont risk the wedding footage.

> Im on a tight budget after spending so much on the camera so I dont want to buy something expensive if I dont have to Jumping in because I totally get the panic!! I was in the exact same boat when I first got my R10 for my sisters graduation last year. I used a random old card and it died halfway through... literally the worst feeling ever lol. Seriously though, you dont need those crazy expensive cards with the double pins for what youre doing. Ive been using the Samsung PRO Plus 128GB SDXC V30 for months and its absolutely fantastic for 4K. Its super reliable and honestly way cheaper than the big brand pro cards. Another amazing choice is the Lexar Professional 1066x 128GB SDXC Silver Series. Just look for that V30 symbol! It basically means the card wont choke while youre recording the ceremony. Youll be totally fine, just make sure to format it in the camera menu before the wedding starts!
