I also saw some buzz about the 50mm 1.4 DG DN but i dont know if that's actually out for Nikon yet or if im gonna be stuck using the older DSLR versions forever. My budget is capped at about 1100 bucks so i cant really go for the crazy high end Nikon S glass. Does the autofocus actually hold up with the adapter for moving subjects or am I gonna regret not going native...

I just got the Sigma 18-50mm lens for my Sony camera because everyone said it was the best for travel and I finally saved up enough money to buy it for my trip to Maui next month. Im really nervous though because its the most expensive thing I own and I keep seeing people talk about putting filters on the front of the glass. I literally have no idea what they do or if they are even necessary or if they will make my pictures look worse? Like do I need one just to keep it from getting scratched? I saw some on Amazon that were like 10 dollars but then some are 100 dollars and I dont get the difference at all. I dont want to ruin the lens glass because the beach has a lot of sand and wind and I'm worried about the salt spray and stuff ruining the coating.

Someone told me to get a polarizer? But I dont know what that even means or if it makes the colors look weird. I also heard about ND filters which sounds like something for video but I mostly just want to take nice pictures of my family and the sunset. My budget is pretty tight after buying the lens so I probably only have like 60 or 70 bucks left to spend on this kind of stuff. I really dont want to buy something I dont need but I also dont want to be that guy who ruins his new lens on the first day of vacation lol.

Im sorry if this is a super basic thing but I am totally lost with all the different sizes too... I think it says 55mm on the front? Does that mean any 55mm thing works? Im just trying to figure out what are the actually essential filters I should get for this specific Sigma lens before I leave or if I can just skip it entirely...

I just grabbed the 85mm f1.4 DG DN for a big destination wedding I'm shooting in Maui next month and it's the first time I'm actually worried about the salt spray and that harsh Pacific sun hitting the front element. I usually never use filters because I'm a bit of a purist about that Art series sharpness but I'm starting to think I need a solid CPL or maybe just a high-end protector that wont mess with the bokeh. Do you guys find certain brands play better with Sigma's coatings or should I just stick with the lens hood and pray?

But man this thing is a beast and the soft bag it comes with is kinda trash for actual hiking. I've been looking at the Lowepro Lens Trekker 600 but it looks freaking massive like I'm carrying a fridge on my back lol. Then I saw the Think Tank Glass Limo which seems better but some reviews say it's a tight squeeze if I leave the body attached. My budget is like $150 max. Does anyone have a specific case or bag that fits this lens perfectly without it being a giant awkward box?

I really need to know which Sigma lens is actually the best for an X-T5 when shooting street at night because I am getting so many conflicting answers online and it is driving me crazy.

I've been looking at the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 since everyone says it is the perfect small lens for the Fuji system and the size is great for being discreet but then I see people saying f2.8 just isnt enough when you are in dark back alleys or shooting under neon signs where the shadows are super deep. I am heading to Tokyo in about three weeks so I am on a tight timeline to get this sorted and I really want to capture that blade runner vibe without my ISO hitting 12800 and making everything look like mush.

Then I looked at the Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is way faster but then I read some forums saying the autofocus is kinda hunt-y on the X-T5 specifically or that it is not as sharp as the newer Fuji primes. But the Fuji primes are way out of my budget right now since I can only spend about 500 bucks max after buying the camera body itself. I also looked at the 16mm f1.4 but that seems way too wide for street stuff unless I want to be shoved in peoples faces which I really dont want to do.

I am just frustrated because I want that Sigma value but I cant tell if:

The 18-50mm f2.8 is fast enough with the X-T5s IBIS

The 30mm f1.4 is actually reliable for moving subjects at night

There is some other Sigma option I am totally missing

I just want something that wont weigh me down while I am walking 20,000 steps a day but can actually handle the low light without looking terrible. Every review video I watch just shows beautiful sunny day shots which helps me exactly zero percent for what I actually need for this trip. The X-T5 is amazing but if I cant find a lens that works in the dark for under 500 dollars I am gonna be so annoyed...

Seriously im about to lose it with this camera in the sun. I love the fp L for the colors and the size but god trying to use the back screen in the bright Arizona sun is just a joke. I cant see anything. I bought the LVF-11 loupe thing because everyone said it was the best way but honestly I hate it. Its way too big and turns this tiny pocketable camera into a weird bulky monster that doesnt even fit in my bag right. Plus it keeps getting in the way when I try to use the touch screen for focus points.

I really want to keep using this system for my street photography trip to Japan next month but if I cant find a better way to see what im shooting its going on eBay. Are there any other options that arent as massive as the Sigma one? Ive looked at:

small rig components

maybe some weird third party eyecups

those tiny hot shoe viewfinders but do they even work for framing

Does anyone have a setup that actually keeps the camera small but lets you see in daylight? I have about $300 to spend on this but im just tired of squinting and guessing where my focus is...
