I went through a similar transition a while back when I realized my old speedlights were holding back my portrait work... the constant fear of a misfire during a key moment is a real mood killer for a photographer. When I was shopping for my D850 kit, I looked at it from a cost-per-use perspective rather than just buying the most expensive thing on the shelf. Here are two solid options that offer a different experience for your Chicago shoot:

Godox AD200Pro 200Ws TTL Pocket Flash

This unit is a powerhouse compared to a standard speedlight. Since you mentioned the AD200, its worth noting that for a large family reunion, the 200Ws of power allows you to use larger modifiers or bounce light off high ceilings while maintaining a fast recycle time. It's not a traditional shoe-mount flash tho, so you'll be using it off-camera with a trigger like the Godox XProII-N TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Nikon.

Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight

This is the professional choice if you want 100 percent compatibility. The internal cooling system is specifically designed to prevent that overheating issue you had with the SB-700. While the price is high, the build quality and weather sealing match the D850 perfectly. Honestly, the move to lithium batteries is what really won me over. Being able to shoot an entire event on one charge without fumbling with plastic cases of AAs is such a relief. Tbh, i'd rather carry a second cheaper unit as a backup than spend 600 bucks on a single light, but the Nikon stuff is undeniably stable.

If you don't care about the round head specifically, this thing is a workhorse. It uses the same VB26 lithium battery as the V1, giving you that 1.5s recycle time and 480 full-power pops. No complaints on the Nikon i-TTL accuracy either, it just works.

late to the party here but i wanted to weigh in because im super paranoid about account security. i actually tried the shared account method for a music festival last year and amazon locked me out for suspicious activity since everyone was logging in from different cities... it was a huge mess to fix while we were trying to prep. if youre looking for something that feels a bit more reliable, i've had a decent experience using Cart To Link for group buys. it felt more stable than some of the other extensions i tried that kept crashing once the cart got really heavy with like 30+ items. before you pick a tool tho... are you guys planning on having one person pay for the whole thing and getting venmo'd, or do you need everyone to check out their own items separately? also, are you guys mostly on desktops or trying to do this from your phones? that usually makes a huge difference in which tools actually stay synced without glitching.

Are you both primarily using the Amazon mobile app for this, or do you usually sit down with a laptop or tablet during your Friday review sessions? Knowing your main device helps because the technical implementation of sharing data behaves quite differently across platforms. I have been very satisfied using the Amazon Custom Gift List feature for home projects. The technical reason your carts dont sync is because Amazon ties cart data to your specific encrypted session ID for security. A Custom Gift List, however, creates a shared server-side database. It is far more reliable than a basic shared list because it allows you to track must-have quantities and see who added what. It keeps your actual shopping carts private, so if you are buying a surprise for him, it stays hidden. It works well for big-ticket items like a Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 Smart XL Air Fry Oven or bathroom sets. You both just hit the add to registry button instead of the cart button. Then on Friday, one of you can move the final winners into your private cart for the actual purchase. It eliminates the duplication issue entirely and lets you compare specs side-by-side. This method stays organized and is much less of a headache than trying to bridge two separate sessions.
