So I finally saved up and got a Nikon Z6ii because I really want to take photos of the northern lights in Iceland next month but now I realize I have no idea how to keep the camera still. I went to look for a tripod and wow there are way too many options and I'm honestly so confused by all the numbers and materials like what even is the difference between aluminum and carbon fiber besides the price?

My logic was that since I'm traveling I should get the smallest one possible so it fits in my carry-on but then I read somewhere that if it's too light itll just blow over in the wind which sounds like a nightmare for my new gear. I saw some brands like Manfrotto and Peak Design but they are so expensive... like is it really worth spending $400 on three legs? I was hoping to stay around $200 or maybe a bit more if it really makes a difference because I still have to pay for the rest of my trip.

I think my main goals are:

easy to carry on a plane

wont fall over if it gets breezy

simple to set up because I'm slow

I just want something that works and doesnt feel like a toy. Does anyone have a specific one they use for their Nikon mirrorless? I'm sorry if these are really basic questions I just dont want to buy the wrong thing and regret it when I'm standing in the cold...

Man I finally did it. Just picked up a used Nikon Z6 today and I am literally vibrating with excitement right now haha. Upgrading from my ancient D5300 so this feels like jumping into a spaceship or something. Im based in Seattle so I really want to get out there and do some moody street shots and maybe some rainy hiking stuff at Mt Rainier once the weather clears up a bit but I realized I might be underprepared for the move to mirrorless.

I have about $500 left in my gear fund for this month and I am realizing I need way more than just the body and the 24-70 kit lens I got. I spent a few hours looking at forums and youtube but man it is confusing. Like the memory card situation is driving me crazy. I read that I have to use XQD cards but then some people say you can use CFexpress Type B if you update the firmware? But then some people are saying CFexpress runs hot or something and the XQD is more reliable for the older Z6? The cards are like $150 on their own which is a huge chunk of my budget so I dont want to buy the wrong thing and find out it doesnt work right.

Then there is the battery situation. I have a bunch of EN-EL15 batteries from my old Nikon kit but I heard only the -c- version lets you charge through the USB port which would be huge for travel. Is it worth buying the official Nikon ones or are the Wasabi ones okay? I saw some guy on a thread saying third party batteries can swell up and get stuck and that lowkey terrified me lol.

And since I am in a rainy area do I need a specific screen protector or like a silicon skin? I keep seeing those advertised and dont know if they are gimmicks. Plus I still have a few old F-mount lenses. I was looking at the FTZ adapter but the official one is pricey compared to the Viltrox ones. Does the autofocus actually work the same on the knockoffs? I really want to get this right. What are the absolute must-have accessories for someone just starting out with the Z6?

I just got a Nikon Z6 and I'm freaking out a bit because I spent almost my whole budget on the body and now I need a tripod for this hiking trip to Zion in three weeks. I really don't want to spend more than like $120-$130 but I'm legit terrified of putting an expensive camera on some flimsy legs that might snap or tip over.

I've narrowed it down to these three but I'm totally stuck:

K&F Concept 64 inch (the one everyone sees on Amazon)

Manfrotto Element MII Aluminum

Benro Slim Carbon Fiber (found a deal on it)

I'm leaning toward the K&F because it's the cheapest but then I worry about the quality. Is the Manfrotto actually better or are you just paying for the name? I need something that:

fits in a standard carry-on bag

stays steady for long exposure star shots

wont break the first time I take it on a trail

supports the weight of the Z6 with a 24-70 lens

I'm so stressed about picking the wrong one and having my camera crash into the dirt. Does anyone have experience with these specific ones on a Z6? I really need to pull the trigger tonight or tomorrow so I can test it before I fly out...

I read that the SmallRig grip is a must because the body is so flat but then some people say it ruins the retro look and adds weight so I'm totally torn. My logic was to stay light but I dont want hand cramps after hours of street shooting. I also saw the battery life is kinda mid... do I buy spares or just a power bank? Budget is super tight after getting the 28mm lens so I need to pick just three essentials. What are the top three things I absolutely need for this trip?

I've been looking at the Nikon SB-700 vs the Godox V860III or the V1. My logic was to stick with Nikon for the reliability but then I read that the Godox batteries last way longer and I'm gonna be shooting for like 8 hours straight. I only have about $350 to spend max. Some reviews say the Godox TTL can be hit or miss on Nikon bodies though and I really can't afford to be messing with manual settings while the bride is walking down the aisle. Is the SB-700 too outdated now or should I just risk it with the Godox?...

I am totally new to this whole photography thing and I feel like a total idiot for not realizing how heavy these things are but I just bought this huge camera and a big 70-200mm lens for my daughters wedding in San Diego next Saturday and I am honestly shocked. I thought it would be like holding a regular camera but it feels like a literal stone block. I have been practicing taking photos of my dog in the yard to get ready for the big day but after like fifteen minutes I have to put it down because the thin strap that says Nikon on it is digging into my neck so bad it leaves a red mark.

I have no idea what I am doing or what the difference is between all these brands people talk about online. I saw some things called slings and some other things called harnesses but they look so complicated with all these tiny clips and I am terrified I am gonna drop the whole thing and break it before the wedding even starts since I spent way too much money on it already. I have about sixty or seventy dollars left to spend on this and I really need to order something today so it gets here by Friday. Does a wider strap help with the weight or do I need one of those ones that goes across my chest like a seatbelt? I keep hearing about something called Peak Design but I dont understand how the little round things work or if they are strong enough to hold something this heavy. My neck is already so sore and I just want something simple that wont break and makes it feel lighter if thats even possible. Please help me out because I am starting to panic that I wont even be able to carry the camera for the whole ceremony without being in total agony...
